Richard obtained a degree in Computer Science at Manchester University, then joined EY in London, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1976.
He joined the family business of the Herbert Group Ltd and is now Chairman.
Paul had a 26-year career in the weighing industry ending as the owner and Managing Director of a south coast industrial weighing company before it’s successful sale and acquisition in 2021. As part of that career, Paul was invited to join the UK Weighing Federation, board of directors on which he served from October 2015 until March 2022.
Paul took the position as Managing Director of UKMB following the companies incorporation in February 2022 and brings a broad range of business experience to the UKMB team to ensure continuity of services.
Phil had a 40-year career in the Trading Standards profession, ending as head of service for one of the largest local authorities in the UK. As part of that career, he created and managed quality systems to ISO 9001 and UKAS accreditations.
Since leaving Trading Standards, Phil has carried out assessments under legal metrology rules across the world, conducting over 200 assessments in 20 countries including the UK, Europe, USA and the Far East. Phil brings a wealth of experience in legal metrology to the UKMB team to ensure our clients receive the highest possible level of service.
Brian has over fifty seven years in the weighing industry.
Having spent the last twelve years auditing for NMO covering NAWI & AWI module D certifications.
Iain is a Principal Trading Standards Officer and Technical Manager for the Scottish Trading Standards Approved Body. He is one of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute’s lead officers for legal metrology and a trainer and examiner. Other duties undertaken for CTSI are contributing to the Weights and Measures section of the Business Companion website and representing EMeTAS at WELMEC Working Group 5 meetings. Iain is the current Deputy Chair of the UK’s Legal Metrology Expert Panel.
Damian is a Chartered Trading Standards Officer and a member of the CTSI. He specialises in Weights and Measures, Product Safety, Investigations and Regulating Markets and also has a BSI certificate as a lead auditor for ISO9001 Quality Management.
He currently sits on the National Legal Metrology Technical Panel and the OPSS Legal Metrology Group, ensuring synchronicity between central government policy and local authority actions.
Before becoming a Trading Standards Officer, Damian was a Regional Investigator for Trading Standards. Damian brings a wealth of experience to UKMB and prides himself on advising businesses on what they need to do to comply with the law and supporting them in achieving that.
Andy was introduced to metrology in 1980 but has been involved in legal metrology since 1985. He ran a UKAS mass calibration laboratory and Notified Body for local authority verifications for South Glamorgan and then Cardiff Trading Standards. Andy moved into the University Sector to teach metrology on undergraduate and commercial programmes at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, providing advice both nationally and internationally. Andy then returned to local authority to run a UKAS calibration and testing laboratory and Approved Body for local authority verifications at the Tyne and Wear Joint Committee on Trading Standards. He continues to teach legal metrology for the professional body, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and developed the laboratory accreditation module for mass, volume and weighing instruments.
Ian has been working in the field of legal metrology for 35 years since beginning as an Inspector for a Weights and Measures Authority in the UK. Since 2009 he has worked as the Technical Officer for the UKWF giving members advice on all aspects of compliance. He has been an active member of the CECIP Legal Metrology Group and the Business & Trade Group working with colleagues to achieve the best for all stakeholders. He also works for a EU27 notified body covering the Directives for a wide range of weighing and measuring equipment. He has completed training in developing countries to assist them in building a legal metrology infrastructure. He is the Editor of “O’Keefe- The Law of Weights and Measures” and works for CEN as the external consultant for harmonised standards under the metrology Directives.

She is the founder of the Sussex Social – A Sussex-based marketing consultancy that specialises in marketing strategy, consultancy and training. She also provides training on social media and email marketing on behalf of the Sussex Chamber of Commerce.
